The 1992 Merlot RCF Vineyard (a vineyard situated near the famed Eisele Vineyard in northern Napa Valley) is a super-intense, chocolatey, black-cherry-scented Merlot that is bursting with flavor, glycerin, and alcohol. This rich, chewy, sumptuous Merlot is even better from bottle than the cask sample I reviewed in issue #92. Expansive and round, it offers an up-front, flattering style. Drink it over the next 10-12 years.

The 2018 Unity Chardonnay comes from 67% Sonoma County fruit and 33% Mendocino County fruit. It has a nose of baker’s yeast, dried tarragon, golden apples and an undercurrent of hay and honey, with a medium-bodied, gently creamy palate with restrained, savory fruits and a long, fresh finish.

Brioche, honeysuckle, toasted spice, and subtle tropical fruits all emerge from the 2017 Chardonnay Unity and it's nicely textured, medium to full-bodied, and beautifully balanced by a spine of vibrant acidity. Coming mostly from Sonoma County, yet with one-third from Mendocino, this solid value spent 15 months in 40% new French oak and there are 685 cases produced.

(80% of this cuvee is from the property around the winery) Reticent nose hints at pear, fresh herbs and grass. Fairly large-scaled and powerful, with sweet flavors of pineapple and wet stone. A fat wine, but still rather tightly wound. Firm finish features a hint of pineapple.

In 2000, proprietors Juelle and Fred Fisher along with their winemaking staff, chose the top six barrels of Chardonnay, aged them in 100% new French oak, and named the resulting wine The Unity. It possesses plenty of texture along with notes of honeysuckle, ripe pear, peach, and citrus oil presented in a medium to full-bodied, rich, long, concentrated style. Unfortunately, only 150 cases will be available.

(a barrel selection from numerous vineyards) Slightly hazy color. Candied yellow fruits and butterscotch on the nose. Powerful, dense and broad, with a honeyed ripeness. A harmonious, highly successful blend that appears to combine the best traits of Fisher's other 2000 chardonnays. Lovely fruit and spice flavors nicely firmed by well-integrated acidity.
