The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Mountain Estate Vineyard is gorgeous, but also very, very young. Dried herbs, lavender, black pepper, espresso and earthy notes give the 2021 its strong savory aromatic presence. This inky, potent Sonoma Cabernet needs time to soften and come together. There's plenty of promise here.

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Mountain Estate Vineyard is such a classic Sonoma Cabernet. Intensely floral and savory aromatics are an immediate sign we are in Sonoma and not Napa. Medium in body and lithe, with terrific energy, the 2019 is all focus and all class. Readers will have to be patient, but there is certainly much to look forward to. White pepper, rose petal, mint and chalk add an attractive upper register as the 2019 opens in the glass. Gorgeous.

Blackcurrants, tobacco, and chocolate as well as some oak emerge from the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Mountain Estate Vineyard, which is medium to full-bodied and has a round, expansive texture, ripe, chewy tannins, and a good finish. It doesn't have the purity or precision of the Wedding Vineyard, but it’s a seriously good mouthful of Sonoma Cabernet.

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Mountain Estate Vineyard is a powerful wine with tons of mountain character. Ash, graphite, dried flower, iron and host of savory notes all run through the Mountain Estate Cabernet. Swaths of tannin wrap around this brooding, virile Sonoma Cabernet. The 2018 is going to need at least a few years to soften. For readers who want to know what Sonoma Cabernet is all about, this is a great place to start. In this vintage, the has a fairly high amount of Franc (13%), which really seems to add aromatic lift as well as energy. This is one of the great values in high-end, artisan California Cabernet Sauvignon.

Coming from Sonoma County, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Mountain Estate Vineyard reveals a deep purple hue as well as brilliant notes of crème de cassis, gravelly earth, flowers, graphite, and hints of tobacco. Medium to full-bodied, seamless, and beautifully balanced, it has high-quality tannins, terrific purity of fruit, and a fabulous finish. This beautiful Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon will evolve for two decades or more.

Including 4% Cabernet Franc, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Mountain Estate Vineyard has classic scents of black currants, cedar, bay leaves, touches of sweet spices, flowers and a hint of milk chocolate. The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Mountain Estate vineyard is loaded with notes of wild cherry, plum, iron, cedar, smoke, tobacco, and grilled herbs. Powerful and ample in feel with tremendous richness, this is shaping up to be positively stellar. Swaths of tannin and bright saline notes give the wine its distinctive sense of energy and overall feel. The 2017 matches fruit density with more floral, savory, and mineral notes that are typical of this site.

Deep ruby-purple, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Mountain Estate Vineyard opens with gregarious crème de cassis, chocolate-covered cherries, graphite, leather and spice box with notes of thyme, turned earth and eucalyptus. Medium to full-bodied, it floods the mouth with intense, youthfully wound fruit, framed by grainy tannins and great freshness, finishing very long. This is vibrant and intense and will require another 3-5 years of bottle age. 952 cases produced.

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Mountain Estate Vineyard (84% Cabernet Sauvignon and the balance Merlot and Petit Verdot) spent 22 months in 80% new French oak. It has a more mineral-laced style as well as dark currants and cassis-like fruits, notes of smoked herbs and graphite, full body, building tannins, and a great finish. There's a touch of this liqueur of rock like minerality that comes out with air and it's a powerful, structured wine that reminds me of what Leoville Las Cases would make from Napa. Hide bottle for 4-5 years and drink it over the coming two decades or more.

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Mountain Estate Vineyard is a dark, brooding wine. A terrific example of Sonoma Cabernet, the 2016 possesses superb textural richness and intensity to match its dark, somber profile. An infusion of inky dark fruit, gravel, smoke, iron, game, dark spice, leather and licorice runs through this super expressive, rugged Cabernet Sauvignon from the Fisher family's Spring Mountain estate.

The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Mountain Estate Vineyard is a bold wine with all of the rugged character and savoriness of hillside Sonoma Cabernets. Smoke, black pepper, herb, graphite, licorice and gravel, along with firm tannins, give the Mountain Estate its unique personality. The 2015 needs time to come into its own, but it is terrific, even at this early stage.

Full-bodied and laden with black fruit and savory layers, it has a fantastic foundation of very ripe, grainy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing with amazing length. 635 cases produced.

The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Mountain Estate Vineyard is gorgeous. Dark, powerful and inviting, but with plenty of Sonoma structure underpinning the wine's structure. Black cherry, mocha, plum and spice are front and center. Bold, intense and racy, the 2014 exudes concentration and richness from the very first taste. This is a superb wine, especially at this level.

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Mountain Estate Vineyard is powerful, wild and savory, with super-expressive aromatics, beams of tannin and superb balance. The 2013 is finely cut and light on its feet, with lovely nuance. Sweet red cherry, rose petal and wild flowers grace the exquisite finish.

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Mountain Estate Vineyard is tightly knit, but rich, impressive and well-endowed with plenty of black fruits, cedar wood, and hints of barrique and earth. It is full-bodied and will probably benefit from several years of bottle age, and can be consumed over the following 15-20 years.

Game, smoke, tobacco, leather and incense take shape in the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Mountain Estate Vineyard. A deep, dense wine, the 2012 possesses considerable mid-palate depth and concentration. Pine, mint, lavender and cedar inform the firm, super-expressive finish.

The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Mountain Estate Vineyard shows slightly bluer fruits and touches of graphite and dark raspberries in a medium to full-bodied, zestier, refreshing and crisp style. It should drink nicely for 12-15 years.

Opaque ruby. Potent aromas of black and blue fruit preserves and incense, with a floral nuance adding complexity. Sappy cassis and mulberry flavors are brightened by tangy acidity, with a jolt of peppery spices gaining intensity with air. Sweet and gently tannic on the penetrating finish, with the floral note echoing.

Fisher's 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Mountain Estate Vineyard is a bit bigger and richer than the Wedding, with a little less in the way of structure. A big, boisterous wine, the 2010 is literally bursting with fruit. Blueberries, blackberries, savory herbs, tobacco, smoke and licorice all flow through to the inviting, caressing finish. There is considerable early and medium-term appeal in this rich, fruit-driven Cabernet-based red. In 2010, the blend 86% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Malbec, with dollops of Cabernet Franc and Merlot.

Firm tannins provide the backbone in the 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Mountain Estate Vineyard. Layered dark blue/purplish fruit, sweet herbs, tobacco, incense and tar come to life in a powerful, structured Cabernet Sauvignon from Fisher's Sonoma County estate. The 2009 boasts implosive fruit, equally vibrant minerality and fabulous overall balance. I can't wait to see how it ages.

(includes 4% cabernet franc and 1% merlot): Opaque violet. Intense cherry and blackcurrant aromas are complicated by smoky herb, tobacco and mineral nuances. Broad and pliant, offering open-knit dark berry preserve flavors are given bite by a gentle peppery quality. Sweet and velvety on the finish, leaving cherry and licorice notes behind.

Opaque ruby. Explosively perfumed bouquet of cherry-vanilla, blackberry, mocha and cola, along with a powerful incense note. Broad, creamy and penetrating on the palate, offering sweet dark fruit preserve flavors enlivened by smoky, spicy nuances. Clings impressively on the finish, which echoes the mocha and dark berry notes. Very substantial wine but I get no sense of undue weight. There's 7% merlot in this year's blend.

(includes 15% petit verdot and 10% merlot) Deep, bright ruby. Smoky red- and blackcurrant aromas are complicated by cured tobacco, licorice and dried rose. Sappy dark fruit flavors are given lift and spine by a smoky mineral quality and show an interesting Indian spice quality on the back half. A touch of vanilla adds sweetness to the long, juicy, focused finish. This is pretty seductive now but I'd resist opening mine for at least another five years.

Bright ruby. Intensely perfumed bouquet of smoky red and dark berries lifted by a sexy floral quality. Mineral-driven raspberry and blackcurrant flavors are underscored by tobacco and graphite elements and supported by a spine of zesty minerals. The smoky note defines the long, gently sweet finish. Lots going on here already, but give it some age.

From a 1,400 foot elevation site, the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Mountain Estate Vineyard offers sweet red and black currant notes interwoven with hints of truffles, damp earth, forest floor, lead pencil shavings, and flowers. It possesses excellent ripeness for a 2006, a dense, medium to full-bodied palate, and moderate tannins. This wine should drink well for 15 years.

Bright ruby-red. Musky black raspberry and chocolatey oak dominate the nose. Dry but rich, with somewhat musclebound flavors of currant, tobacco and underbrush. Dense but tightly wound, with the oak element currently holding the upper hand over fruit. This should show more nuance and sweetness with a few years of bottle aging.
